Experts on Business Planning Oprah Winfrey and Bobby Flay

Oprah Winfrey

“It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from. The ability to triumph begins with you” (Oprah, 2007). Oprah’s words in this quote says everything about an individuals power to do anything you want in life no matter what your life experiences are. Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in poverty to teenage parents out of wedlock. Oprah got pregnant at the age of 16 and gave birth to a boy who died at infancy. She has also been rapped and sexually abused by her family and a family friend, but she still managed to emerge as one of the most successful and influential figures in the world. Oprah was only did she become a TV personality, she is also an actress, philanthropist, publisher, and producer. She is one of the most influential figures in woman history and the entertainment industry.
Oprah’s sees a business plan as the One Page Business Plan model, which was designed by Jim Horan. She states when you create an A-1 Business Plan it will force you to consider the “what ifs.”  It is provide you with a structure where you will find if you need to change anything that does not seem right. The key factors important for investors in order to secure a business plan loan is to be clear on exactly how much money you need and what will it be used for. The reason for this is that banks or an investor is not going to put up any money for something that is not real or not planned out accordingly.  Oprah also suggests marketing your plan by tapping into networks to share the plan with your family and friends. This will also your business to be notices on social networking.
Bobby Flay
Bobby Flay is a celebrity top chef and restaurant owners who has succeeded tremendously. Bobby Flay became a Food Network star who launched 27 restaurants including but not limited to Bolo, Bar Americain, Mesa Grill in New York City and Bobby’s Burger Palace. Before becoming a huge restaurant owner Bobby Flay lived in New York City with his family and grew up in Manhattan. After attending several Catholic schools he become a high school drop out and started working as a bus boy in a restaurant called Joe Allen in the theater district.  One day he was asked to work in the kitchen and that was when his life turned around. He began by making salads and eventually started culinary school in the French Culinary Institute. After he quit the business he worked for Wall Street but realized that wasn’t for him and went back to work in the kitchen.  Flay opened his restaurant called Mesa Grill in 1991, after he met Jerry Kretchmer, who owned Gotham Bar and Grill in Union Square New York City. He had asked Flay to make the menu and he will pay for the place and that when Mesa Grill became his first restaurant opening. According to Flay, it was his confidence and work ethic that got him where his is. The key factor to a successful business is to have drive and ambition.     He partnered with other restaurants and is the lead investor in America’s Great Restaurant.
The key takeaways from these two professionals is to be prepared, know exactly what you are investing in and don’t let go of the drive and ambition to be successful with what you love. For my business plan I will take into consideration both Oprah and Bobby Flay’s business concepts. From Oprah to take your business plan and be clear and be specific on what you want. From Flay I take that the fact that drive, determination and ambition is important when an investor looks to invest in you or your company.
